Today's Webtip: José Mujica

The atheist President of Uruguay and Pope Francis are both schooling U.S. politicians in the Christmas Spirit.

U.S. conservatives have been having a regular old hissy-fit about Pope Francis.

His statements have made quite a few pundits and politicians apoplectic, with Rush Limbaugh calling him a Marxist. Something the U.S. right calls everyone from President Obama to Adolf Hitler. Pope Francis, however, responded in a way no U.S. figure ever has.

He said, "Marxist ideology is wrong, but I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people, so I don’t feel offended."

One of them might be José Mujica. One of the extremely rare politicians who seems to be practicing what he preaches. And he preaches in front of some people who need to be preached at.

So how does he live up to it? Well, he legalized abortion, gay marriage and marijuana, donates 90% of his salary, lives on a farm rather than in a palace and drives an old VW Beetle.

He probably wouldn't have been the type to turn Mary and Joseph away from the inn. Unlike a lot of other politicians I can think of.
