Today's Webtip: TPP leak

a look at how corporate interests and the U.S. government are undermining democracy.

There are two concepts that have been a driving force behind the global attacks on human rights we have been seeing over the last ten years. Terrorism and intellectual property rights.

Both have been used as excuses for online surveillance and legislative reform across the globe. Fequently in ways that completely subvert democratic processes. One of the most useful tools in getting around things like open debate, curious media and angry public interest groups is the international trade agreement.

The most recent trade agreement to wrap itself in secrecy and make (some) headlines is the Trans-Pacific Partnership. A lovely bit of paper that finally got leaked the other day.

If you want to get an idea of why I (and many others) think it's a perfect example of the anti-democratic and corporatist future a lot of politicians seem to be working towards, check out this article at the EFF.

And then hug the next Canadian you see.
