Today's Webtip: War of the Worlds
The radio broadcast of Orson Welles' version of H.G. Welles' classic science fiction story is legendary. Literally. There are loads of legends that have sprung up around that fateful broadcast that continue to be told.
There are also some facts that have been told but rarely heard. Something a few radio producers have done their best to rectify.
In 2008 Radiolab put together a live radio broadcast looking at the myths and realities of the show, and asked the question "Could it happen again?"
The answer is worth waiting for.
That show was rebroadcast in anticipation of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the original WotW broadcast. An event that had more than a few radio people getting a bit excited. Part of that excitement was the documentary "War of the Welles" which you can listen to on the CBC site. George Takei fans should probably check it out.
