Today's Webtip: MOOCs
Online education is booming. It's finally moved well beyond the diploma mills of the past, with courses being offered by well known universities.
The only real problem is that most of the well known offerings are only in english. Since I jumped into uni in a foreign language, I know just how daunting that can be.
Things are getting better, though. I have found a few courses that are being offered in cooperation with German universities. Iversity seems to be the big mover right now, and they are starting a handful of course this week.
Opencourseworld is for the more business minded out there. Management, leadership and other suit stuff make up the bulk of their course, but they are apparently planning a course in Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten that could be interesting.
And finally, coursera.org offers courses in quite a few languages, but only two will be held in German right now.
I think the best way to keep up with course offerings across providers is mooc-list.com. You can choose to browse course by many things including language and country.
You'll still have to practice your English if you want to get a full education online, but at least you can do that online, too.
