Unfiltered contact to the great mass of humanity can be an incredible learning experience. What you learn depends on the job.
As a ice cream salesman I learned the joys of providing people with a quick sugar fix. As a jewellery salesman and watch repair dude I quickly learned about a lot of stupid ways to try to scam hapless clerks. Delivering singing telegrams helped me lose any sense of shame. As a cab driver I learned that the world is weirder than Hollywood will ever say.
I'm only sad I never tried out being a hotel concierge. Because that sounds like the doorway to the twilight zone...
