Today's Webtip: Dean Trippe

A talented artist, podcaster and generally busy man.

Escapism is a pretty useful skill these days. It's a lot easier to get lost in the wonders of talented artists and story tellers than to try to wrap your head around the way the world is (not) working.

After spending a couple of hours lost in the archives of Dean Trippe's sites, it finally occurred to me that I had found something I need to share. I was so distracted I honestly forgot that I had been "working".

The first thing that caught my attention was a post about his most recent comic, Something Terrible. A story that delivers on it's title. I'm only three episodes in, but the fabulous art has me hooked and trembling at the thought of where the story is going to go. Trigger warnings are appropriate as the tale confronts childhood sexual abuse.

You'll Be Safe Here

His Tumblr is one big ball of goodness, featuring things he has found, work updates, and all sorts of context. If you are able to tear yourself away from what he is posting there, you can find links to his homepage and other projects.

deantrippe.com is where you can find his art. Dean does an incredible job of working a childlike joy into his illustrations. Looking at them put me back into the head of my 6 year old self, and I could almost smell my precious stack of comics and feel the paper as I sat on my bedroom floor reading stories of daring-do.

THe last Triipe I'm going to give you is his Project:Rooftop. It's a place for artists to get together and redesign the characters they know and love. Steampunk Spiderman, Wildwest Batman, and a fantasy Loki are just a few of the things you can find there. It's a great way to keep yourself entertained, awed and discovering artists.
