Today's Webtip: Getty Critics

Because there are some really terrible photos out there.

Remember clip-art? It doesn't seem like all that long ago that you could find CD's full of random illustrations about, well nothing and everything.

As a graphic designer it was some of the most cringe-worthy stuff to run across. There was nothing worse than being confronted with a customer who thought it was a good idea to use some terrible line-art from a computer magaine CD they had lying around.

It's one of those things I rarely run across anymore, and I don't miss it at all. I do however run across something similar. Stock photography. I remember being confused by stock photos before the digital revolution. Confused and amazed at some of the bizarre things people decided to photograph and then sell.

Well, things have only gotten worse. Now the situations are just WTF strange, but the quality has taken a nose dive.

So I can understand the urge to yell at the screen after browsing through thousands of stupid pics. Stupid pics that someone actually wants to get paid for. I don't know if I would be able to supress the snark.

www.gettycritics.com certainly didn't. It's a giant snarkfest ripping on some seriously mind-numbing stock photography. It's entertaining, and depressing, and oddly inspiring. Because you would actually have to work to take pictures that are this bad.

(Thanks to Conny for this distraction)
