The Kenyan capital has been rocked by an attack by militants from the Somali Al-Shaba group on a popular shopping centre.

The attack began on Saturday, and the Westgate Centre is still under seige. Africa analyst Richard Dowden, from the Royal African Society, explains why Al-Shabab have launched an attack outside their Somali homeland.
