Today's Webtip: The Appendix
Do you like reading about history?
I hated history lessons in school, but I always loved reading about history. Now that I don't have to worry about my bad memory it's a lot easier to sit and wonder what it might be like to be a historian.
Judging by what I have read at theappendix.net it sounds like it could be pretty fun. The Appendix is a quarterly history journal - the current issue is all about sound, and music and humanity. One article is all about 17th century drinking ballads. You'll not only learn about the ballads, but about how historians approach studying them. It's a process I could appreciate.
Another article takes a look at 80's hardcore and hair-metal. As someone who was into hardcore at the time, it was rather amusing to get some added insight into a transition that confused, confounded and eventually amused me.
There are 24 articles covering all sorts of historically interesting aspects of sound and music. I would feel very sad if you couldn't find some there to tickle your interests...
