Can Hong Kong protect Snowden?

PRISM whistleblower, Edward Snowden, is currently in Hong Kong, where he is believed to be in hiding. Local freedom of speech activists are proud that he has chosen the territory and take it as an acknowledgement of Hong Kong's open and free society and legal system.

However, some are concerned that Hong Kong does, in fact, have an extradition treaty with the United States, and Snowden may not be safe there.
