Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has asked Iran's supreme leader to reverse a ban preventing his aide from running in next month's presidential poll.

The Guardian Council, charged with vetting all candidates, disqualified Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie, Ahmadinejad's former chief of staff, yesterday, as well as ex-President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani from the June 14 election, leaving a field dominated by hardliners loyal to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
While Rafsanjani, a pillar of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, will not appeal against the ruling, outgoing President Ahmadinejad is not so chill... Middle East expert Shashank Joshi gave us his perspective...

Apple CEO Tim Cook was grilled by a US Senate investigative committee today and he had to publicly defend a tax avoidance scheme that shifted at least $74 billion away from U.S. tax collectors.
