Ocalan

PKK supporters rally around posters of their leader, Abdullah Ocalan.

Imprisoned PKK leader, Abdullah Ocalan, has called for a cease fire with the Turkish government.

The move could end the decades of violent struggle between Kurdish rebels who want their own country in South East Turkey. It could also have wide implications for the whole region, as there are also large Kurdish communities in Iraq, Iran and Syria.

Christian Schüller reports from Istanbul that the move by Ocalan is the result of months of negotiations, and could respresent a significant shift in Turkey's influence in the region.
