How to Pick a Pope

Men in red, gold, black and white robes. From all over the world. Everyone knows that they are meeting but their meeting is secret. Flat unassuming skullcaps, medium height broad round hats, and tall, slightly threatening hats. Rings that are kissed and then smashed. Everybody speaks Latin. Rituals that involve ballots and smoke.
The procedure behind the Papal conclave is fascinating, complicated and steeped in tradition. Our Vatican correspondent David Willey gives us some insight into the voting process...
