Today's Webtip: Awesomeness

oh, the things we could do. Wow! The things some have done.

Have you ever gotten in a discussion with anyone about something like shortened work-weeks, fair share of productivity or the Bedingungslose Grundeinkommen? It can be a pretty depressing thing to do. Especially when one of the parties in the discussion tends to think everyone and their dog is a lazy and useless sack of water who would never get anything done without the threat of starvation or jail.

Now, despite being a bit of a grumpy old man with a bit of a tinfoil hat, there is a part of me that likes to believe humans could be pretty awesome if they would just decide to try. Of course, hanging out in the right places online helps a bit. It's one of the best ways to see just what people will do when they can share in the benefits of easy access to information and reduced costs of production. It also makes me wish more people could afford to spend more time dedicated to their hobbies, and less time paying rents.

One excellent example is the stuff going on at www.405th.com

Loads of talented people making some amazing costumes. Mostly armor, mostly gorgeous, and all completely useless. It's like poetry you can wear.

LilTyrant has some particularly impressive work

LilTyrant

Her epic build thread takes you through the development of her Kat-B320 inspired armor and custom undersuit. It's a humbling read.

It's also just a bit inspiring, and anyone who suddenly feels the need to try to do something similar might want to visit a thread about an Iron Man build. The first post offers a huge dose of information to help you get started with foam costume modeling.

It's not too late to start your next Halloween costume...
