Despite the views of many commentators last week that the Israeli elections were likely to see a swing to the far right, that has not been the case. The winners are the centre parties - most notably, the newly formed Yesh Atid party, led by TV presenter Yair Lapid and representing a centre left, secular platform. In a quite astonishing turn of events, they came second with 19 seats.

Benjamin Netanyahu looks set to stay in power, but will have to re-think his coalition

The big loser was Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud-Beitenu alliance which lost around 25% of its seats, but still remains the latest party on 31 seats.

To put this in context - there are 120 seats in total. That mean's Netanyahu is going to have to do some serious coalition building, and there is no guarantee he will succeed. He is promising a broad coalition - but when you look at the figures, he doesn't really have any choice.

Our Jerusalem correspondent, Irris Makler, gives her analysis of the election results and what is likely to happen next.
