Today's Webtip: Before Photoshop

A look behind the covers of Sandman.

Sandman was the last comic series I collected. I mean, it was the last series that I bought every single issue of. It was the work that introduced me to Neil Gaimann, the man who wrote the stories that kept me coming back for more.

But it was the cover art of Dave McKean that drew me in. Jaw dropping collages that I would have loved to hang on my walls. Or, as it turns out, dioramas. Physical constructions that most likely inspired more than a few budding young photoshop jockies.

Mr. Gaimann put up a handful of photos of the original pieces on Tumblr. Long lost fans will probably appreciate them. And for those of you who haven't seen a Sandman comic, it's a perfect excuse to check them out.
