In Gaza, an cease fire was called for three hours this morning, while the Egyptian Prime Minister, Hisham Qandil, visited the territory. Although the visit passed without incident, it seems that the cease fire was not fully observed, and although most analysts say that none of the parties has anything to gain by a further escalation, it looks as though it might be unavoidable.
The shelling on both sides reached new intensity following the assassination of the military leader of Hamas, Ahmed Said Khalil al-Jabari, on Wednesday.
