After a top Lebanese intelligence official was killed in a car bomb in Beirut on Friday, there have been violent protests across the country over the weekend as many people blame Syria for the attack.

Lebanon is probably the most complicated of all the complicated countries in the region. Its relationships with its neighbours, especially Syria and Israel, are divisive and highly emotive.

Syria was implicated in the assassination of former Prime Minister, Rafic Hariri, and Syrian influence, or some say interference, in Lebanese politics and life is an extremely controversial issue.

Now there are fears that Lebanon will be dragged into Syria's civil war.

Analyst
Rime Allaf looks at the complex relationship between the two countries.
