Parliamentary elections in Belarus were boycotted by opposition parties, but nevertheless a 75% turnout was announced, and the results will not pose any threat to the power of President Alexander Lukashenko, often called "Europe's last dictator".

Bo Xilai scandal continues
The former police chief, Wang Lijun, is jailed for 15 years for distortion of the law, abuse of power and bribe taking in connection with covering up the murder of British businessman, Neil Heywood. The wife of prominent politician, Bo Xilai, was convicted of the murder in August.
