Today's Webtip: Pocket Factories

an exciting new development in low-cost solar and distributed manufacturing.

The digital revolution continues to makes it's way offline and into the the world of things. The change from top down processes heavy with middle-men and gatekeepers has been giving way to decentralized distribution and flatter hierarchies for a couple of decades now, and if everything goes well, these massive changes could start making their way into things like manufacture and energy production.

One new project that just grabbed my eye is trying to do both. A couple of very independent inventors labs have come together to change they way solar energy is being produced. Focusing on the production of micro-solar cells, they found ways to increase the productivity of solar-cell production while also developing small manufacturing solutions. Pocket Factories.

Yeah, they have a Kickstarter page. And a video.

They also have a blog, and it is well worth checking out. The current posts are informative AND entertaining, and I can only hope they continue updating as the project comes together.
