Reality Check: UNHCR on the situation for Syrian refugees; Aurora shooting and American gun laws

Syria's Refugees

As the fighting in Syria continues amid a tug-of-war in the capital Damascus between government troops and opposition forces, terrified civilians are fleeing in their droves. At the weeknd the UN's refugee agency, the UNHCR, said that within a matter of 48 hours, up to 30,000 Syrians had poured into Lebanon. Thousands of Iraqis, who had taken refuge in Syria after already having fled once to escape violence in their home country, have found themselves forced to relive the experience. Most of the people escaping are women and children - they are the most vulnerable in conflicts, a fact highlighted by a report by the international charity War Child, which says children are being deliberately targeted. We speak to Melissa Fleming, spokesperson for the UNHCR, to get a picture of what's going on:
