Today's Webtip: Data Journalism

The free online handbook.

Data journalism is one of those terms you might have stumbled across with increasing frequency over the last couple of years. More and more hackers, journalists and media are wading into the oceans of public data to track down stories, and achieving a decent end result means finding a way to combine good story telling, coding and data mining.

The discipline itself is a work in progress, with people of various backgrounds coming together or finding new skills as they go. Which is why it can't hurt to get a little help from friends. Even if they are only the virtual variety.

One source of help is the Data Journalism Handbook. It's not only a decent starting point for working journalists looking to get a grip on data journalism, but also a super resource for anyone wanting to get a better understanding of news and numbers.
