Today's Webtip: Location Data
Call me paranoid, but after reading several years worth of stories about data leaks, careless handling and security breaches, I'm starting to think that a variation of the internet rule #34 might apply.
If it exists, there will be a misuse of it.
To be fair, a lot of those stories are coming from the land of the free, home of warrentless wiretapping. Where data retention and sharing can be a big business. After courts in the U.S.decided it wasn't ok for police to use GPS trackers, they turned instead to wireless providers to provide their warrentless tracking needs. Something the providers can charge a pretty penny for.
