Today's Webtip: dys4ia

A game, a story, an incredible surprise.

After over 20 years online, and 10 years blogging on an almost daily basis, I think I can say I have become just a bit jaded. It get's harder and harder to find that thing that makes me say "wow!", and even harder still not to automatically expect the vilest of the vile when reading comments in any posts on a massive site.

Just think YouTube. Recruiting propaganda for the Misanthropic army.

So after experiencing dys4ia, I was expecting the worst.

dys4ia is a game about the beginning phase of Anna Anthropy's hormone replacement therapy. Sort of an 8-bit interactive story. A very personal story about a difficult time in the developers life.

Just the type of thing I would expect to call out the hounds of internet hell. Between the low-fi graphics, experimental soundtrack and minimal gaming value, it was the kind of project you would expect to see at an interactive art site. Not www.newgrounds.com

I was almost afraid to read the comments.

I did, though. I always do. I can never look away from an online trainwreck.

But it didn't happen. The comments were amazing. Supportive, accepting, factual...

Even the comments from people who claimed to be morally opposed were calm and (surprisingly) mostly positive. It was like waking up in a parallel universe.

Now I'm almost afraid to go back to sleep.
