Iceland's former Prime Minister is in court accused of mis-managing the economy. Geir Haarde is on trial in Reykjavik in an unprecedented case, charged with not doing enough to protect Iceland from the financial crash in 2008. The idea of holding politicians legally accountable for how well they perform is highly controversial, and charges against 3 other ministers have now been dropped. However, the outcome of this case could create an interesting precendent for politicians in other countries.
