Today's Webtip: Kill the Timeline

how to (almost) free yourself of Facebook's timline view.

Facebook has a pretty long history of enacting changes that annoys its users. I suspect it's because they know that the users who love it aren't going to leave it, no matter how pissed off they might get.

One of their more recent interface changes managed to get both privacy advocates and general uses a little less than happy. Not that it mattered. The timeline view is now being rolled out to users everywhere.

I have to admit, I don't have it yet, so I don't know just how annoying it is. But I have read enough online complaints to suspect there are quite a few people who wish the times they weren't a changing. If you fall into that group, I might have a way to make things a little bit better.

Lifehacker has a post about a way to get back to the way things were. Almost. It requires a browser plugin, and anyone using IE is pretty much out of luck, but I suspect anyone using IE already feels that way. The result only works for your views of pages, and has no effect on how others see your page, but I guess that's better than nothing...
