Today's Webtip: The Allen Ginsberg Project
As a wannabe beatnik in the 80's midwest, I was in the wrong time and wrong place to have easy access to the works of the people that inspired me. I still managed to put together a decent collection of dead trees and not completely dead poets, but it was a very long process. Spending cold and rainy days lost in the aisles of musty used bookstores had it's charm, but the data transfer rates made my 300 baud modem look like a speed demon.
The times they have indeed a changed, and those changes mean you no longer have to make a pilgrimage to City Lights or the Naropa Institute to immerse yourself in Beat culture or poetry. Fans and students of Ginsberg, Keruac, Corso, Cassady, Ferlinghetti or Burroughs now have access to oodles of source material at their fingertips. They are being collected and curated at The Allen Ginsberg Project, a blog featuring news, links, lecture transcripts, films and recordings of and with Ginsberg and his compatriots.
An excellent way to prepare for the upcoming film about the man. If you're the type to do that sort of thing, that is.
