Today's Webtip: Feliz Navidad!

A little something I think we can all agree to enjoy.

Being a teenage atheist in the midwest was strange. It was like having a dirty secret that best went untold. Of course, that was in the 80's, with Reagan, the moral majority and the rise of the Christian right.

So I was seriously surprised to see that CNN was dedicating some major space to a webspecial focusing on how U.S. atheists celebrate Christmas. The series opens with the information that "Americans who are unaffiliated with any faith tradition are the fastest growing religious group in the country". It seems like only yesterday that most major media outlets were loudly proclaiming that a war on Christmas was being waged.

Apparently, a lot of people are surprised that people who don't claim to be Christians still find things to do on the 25th (bzw. 24th) of December.

Since it was a Fark thread that sent me over there, (one that almost gives a taste of typical family arguments after the final christmas poker game) I was in some serious need of holiday Harmony. And THAT was provided by Pee Wee Herman. It seems that almost everyone was able to agree that PeeWee, Charo, and a very big stick should be a Christmas Classic.

And for those who like it a bit more traditional, this one had me wishing for a little bit of snow...

Now, please excuse me as I get ready to determine if the cake is, indeed, a lie...

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a lovely weekend, whatever you might believe in!
