Today's Webtip: Desert Bus
Penn and Teller are U.S. magicians and comedians known for their somewhat evil sense of humor.
In 1995 the two were working on a game to be released on the SegaCD. The company went out of business before the release and Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors never saw the light of day. Well, except for a few early releases that made it into the hands of reviewers. The game, which was meant as a sort of collection of electronic magic tricks, consited of a series of mini games. One of them, the Desert Bus, was different. Rather than providing a way to scam your fiends and enemies, it was meant to put your endurance to the test.
Desert Bus was just what the title says. A bus ride from Pheonix to Las Vegas. You are the driver the bus that contain no passengers, passes very little scenery, is limited to 45 mph, and veers slightly to the right. Your goal is simply to complete the trip. In real time.
Should your bus go off the road it stalls, and you get towed back to the start. In real time.
Should you manage to complete the journey (that should take about 8 hours) you get a point. And then you can drive back. For another point.
Sounds like a potential hit doesn't it. Well, if you have read the description and thought to yourself, oh wow, I have to try that, rejoice! Because a dedicated fan has recreated the game and made it available for you to play online. In real time.
