Today's Webtip: November 5th

Anti-banking action and operation Facebook. This might be a rather interesting day. With or without a mask.

There is a lot going on today. Anonymous has declared action against Facebook, claiming that they want to raise awareness of privacy and data retention issues on that platform.

I still don't know what for it will take, but as usual someone somewhere made a few nifty little videos to announce their op. The german version is chuckle worthy just to hear the computer pronunciation of Facebook.

Unfortunately, this action collides with another action that has been primarily pushed through a Facebook page. Bank Transfer Day was thought up and promoted by Kristen Christian, a woman who was angered by Bank of America's decision to begin charging a fee for debit card use. She (and many others) has been encouraging people to move their business away from large Banks and into credit unions and smaller independent/local banks. According to a few articles online, this has already had the effect of moving accounts worth over 4 billion dollars out of the giants.

Christian claims not to be associated with OWS, although there is another OWS supported action focusing on the 8th of novemeber with the very same goals.

Oddly enough, her FB page features a Guy Fawkes mask. Which no one will see if the other Fawkes fans manage to pull off their action as well...
