Today's Webtip: Occupy Wallstreet
Following the whole Occupy Wallstreet thing has been interesting. Confusion, media blackouts, possible twitter censorship, and pro pepper spray posts have supplied more than a few serious wtf? moments.
Despite the clear and concise statement behind the September 17th action that kicked things off, it seems as though the people on the ground were having a hard time communicating just what the whole thing is about. Despite a core request for election reform (something the Tea Party was also fond of) the Rightbloggers and Teapartiers were confused about what was going on and preferred to focus on the dirty smelly hippy meme.
And until the whiteshirts decided to have a pepper party, most of the media just didn't want to deal with it at all.
Now these issues have been addressed. On the 29th of September the NYC General Assembly hashed out a Declaration of the Occupation of New York City and an independent media production has been kicked off (literally) to create dead tree media covering the occupation. I guess it still can be useful to have something to hand out to people on the street.
