Today's Webtip: Level Up!

an ambitious nerd is turning his life into a game. The Epic Quest of Awesome.

I love people. In that abstract, don't have to deal with the bullshit kind of way. Yes, I frequently get depressed by the details of human reality, but my inner cynic usually has to take a backseat to my inner child. Until I have to deal with bureaucracy at least...

I particularly love people who come up with crazy ideas and then actually make them reality. The One Red Paperclip guy is an excellent example, as is Jonathan Mann, the guy who just keeps writing a song a day while running around the planet being a nice guy.

As a matter of fact, Jonathan's mere existence more than makes up for at least a few thousand trolls.

Today I ran across another ray of sunshine.

Steve Kamb

Steve Kamb. He is in the process of trying to turn a bunch of desk-jockeys into zombie bashing heroes, and he is doing that by turning life into a game. As part of his quest to turn a nerd fitness guide into a viable business, he is writing all sorts of articles on practical application of game theory in real life. And he is actually trying to practice what he preaches.

Eric's Epic Quest of Awesome is his personal blog documenting the journey. He just recently leveled up by living like James Bond in Monte Carlo. The entries not only document his latest quests, but they also provide guides on how he managed to pull off most of what he has done.

Digging around the rest of the site might also be worth your time. Anyone of the nerd persuasion who has been playing around with the idea of fitness will probably enjoy articles like How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse, or Become a Jedi, How the Force can Help You Get in Shape

I just wonder if he will be nerdy enough to turn this idea into an app. Epic Win is almost there, but something that included structured quests might help more people defeat their personal sloth.
