Today's Webtip: umlaut m.

Jugendmedien zum mitmachen.

DIY media. It's come so far since the days of zerox 'zines. The best thing about it, is that everyone is doing it. And now that more people have lost their fears of creating their own content, more and more are learning how to make the most of it.

Even better, learning the basic skills and tools needed to create things like video and radio reports means that those people are also learning more about the pro media they are consuming. Something that can only help people develop a critical understanding of the way things work.

Increased participation and reduced consumption of commercial stuff. It's a win-win situation.

There are many projects here at the ARS festival focusing on teaching people how to make media. One of them (with a really pretty logo/graphic) is umlaut m. Kids are invited to take up the role of cameraperson, editor, interviewer or moderator to create short video clips covering the goigns-on around the site.

Even better? It looks like you can still take part.
