Today's Webtip: Jailbreakme

an easy way to break out of you phones walled garden.

Jailbreaking your iPhone usd to be a serious adventure. Turning your phone into an expensive doorstop was a serious risk, and many people had a very hard time following the directions that were being posted on sites all over the webn.

Over the last couple of years it has become increasingly easy, even as the reasons to do it have become fewer. I've actually gone without jailbreaking for the last couple of years now, and the only feature I really miss that would have made it worth my while was a quick access settings app called SBsettings.

But now that an amazingly easy method has been released to jailbreak a whole mess of iDevices, I decided to give it a shot again. It hasn't been this easy since the last web based jailbreak way back in the iOS 1 days.

All you have to do is head on over to jailbreakme.com, read what is on your screen, and then hit install. The result should be a non-tethered jailbreak that will let you install a bunch of apps that never would have made it into the app store.

It will also let you fix the security flaw that allows you to jailbreak in the first place. Something you may want to consider if you are concerned about security on your device, and don't want to wait until Apple releases the next system update which will fix that bug.

If you do decide to do this, there are one or two things to consider, most of which have been covered in an artcile on about.com

I've used this on a couple of devices in the last few days, and have had the best luck with the most recent iOS 4.3.3. That seemed to be the only way to get it working on an iPad. Whatever you do, backup before trying it and remember, you're doing this at your own risk...
