The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Olivier de Schutter, says that current world policy is failing because it is encouraging the wrong sort of food production. He says a new food chain is needed to avert a world food crisis. Ahead of the G20 summit on agriculture, which opens in Paris tomorrow, he is calling for a fundamental shift in food policy away from mass production. This, he says, would benefit both consumers and producers, and it could be done quickly . He tells Riem Higazi what is going wrong, and how it can be put right.
