Some people like to yell and scream about the looming death of journalism as we know it. Some people do their best to take their ancient publishing models to the web.
And some people try something completely different.
Like taking one of the more time intensive forms of journalism and taking it out of the commercial newsroom. Not just taking it out, but opening up the process of investigation, giving others access to their tools and using creative commons to license their stories.
These people seem to be serious about changing the way things are done. With the backing of a few well to do individuals and several foundations they have managed to put together a paid team of 34 reporters, editors, researchers and technicians dedicated to digging some dirt.
With some award winning results. Their long list of prizes include multiple Pulitzers, not too surprising considering the number of people on their staff who already have a few to their names.
Wether you enjoy investigative journalism in it's own right, or are curious about the way things could be headed, this is something very much worth checking out.
