Today's Webtip: Innocents Abound
The last couple of months I have been working on a new project. It's been a serious pain in the behind, but it's finally reached the point that I have to present it.
Today.
It's supposed to be a fully functioning website, something that documents the various expressions of American culture in Austria. You know, the people who live in Tipis, dress up as cowboys, or drive american gas guzzlers.
It didn't quite work out the way I planned, and I'm still fighting with stupid server issues and other things that cause me headaches, but the basics are there.
Like two of the videos.
One of my first stories was about a Country and Western club in Favoriten. It's a place where people who enjoy sad songs and waistcoats get together to enjoy a fairytale version of the wild west.
It reminded me a lot of Sunday afternoons in the Arena Beisl in the early 90's.
The other story was a bit of a trip. A group of Square Dance fans have a home in one of the most pictuersque corners of Vienna, just a few steps form the Cafe Alt Wien.
The group meets in the Festsaal of the Austrian Tourists Club, taking an american adaptation of traditional european country dances back to it's roots.
