Today's Webtip: Long Reads

a few somethings for those who like their articles long.

Some of you might not have noticed, but the web is pretty much the dominant media these days. I assume you haven't noticed because it's probably been that way for you for years already. But some people out there seemed to be surprised that the web has now beaten television and newspapers as recreational viewing and news resource.

Whatever.

It also means that more people are becoming comfortable with reading longer articles online. Not only becoming comfortable with it, but preferring it. Seeking it out.

So the web being what it is, people have jumped at the chance to help out.

www.instapaper.com is a mix of a webservice and an app for iOS and kindle. Seems to be a pretty nifty thing, since it lets you bookmark stuff as you go to read later (sort of like Read it Later ) they list paper as an option, but that just grates me the wrong way. It's almost as bad as people who have someone else print out their emails for them to read. Bah!

givemesomethingtoread.com is a curated collection of things that have been saved in instapaper.

thebrowser.com is a trip. It's also curated, and they are looking for a business model. They also offer an app, and believe it or not, an email newsletter. That's sort of quaint.

longform.org is similar to give me something to read, but with a bit more attitude. I like their choice of articles a bit better.

I'm sure there are more sites like that out there, quickblogging longer articles rather than simply dropping posts of cats and silly photos. If you have any suggestions, or know of German language sites doing the same, please post them or let me know. I am positive their are a few people out there who would appreciate it.
