Today's Webtip: Mobile Photos
Photography is cool. And the development of the digital camera was really cool.
But, as much as I like my DSLR, I think one of the coolest photo toys ever invented was the cell phone.
I've had my share of point and shoot cameras, I even tried to get used to having one with me all of the time, but I just couldn't do it. My phone on the other hand...
Yes, it took a few years for them to be useful. Billions of really crappy low resolution photos have been taken through the years, and most of them will never be seen. But they were taken. Taken by people who probably wouldn't have carried a camera around with them. And even those nasty little pixel blobs of the past can have a certain charm. Not unlike peoples fascination with cheap plastic cameras of the past. Their weaknesses become their character.
But now we have phones that can outshoot most of the past point and shoots. Photos can be processed on the go and shared straight away.
Anyway, I just bring this up because Gizmodo had a shooting challenge and they seemed a bit surprised at the quality of the results. Silly kids. It's as if they didn't know anything about digital devices...
An older posting at Gizmodo and this flickr photo group has plenty of examples as well.
