How to steal like an artist. And other things no one taught you.

I used to want to be an artist. I actually made it as far as the Angewandte, before I gave up the idea in favor of actually paying my bills.

There was a lot I didn't understand back then. I used to be bubbling over with ideas, most of which I then ignored because they weren't original enough. I was convinced the only right thing to do was to produce ideas and works of singular originality.

I was such a little idiot.

Snce then I have come to realize that it's okay to be influenced, that we are all just building on works of the past, and that there are turtles all the way down. To infinity and beyond.

I really could have used some of the advice in an article I read the other day. A collection of ideas that could have saved me a lot of time, and might have let me get down to actually creating a lot earlier.

It should be required reading for anyone who is thinking of making stuff.
