Today's Webtip: How to take down a dictator
I've run into a lot of fabulous do it yourself guides over the last nine years of covering the internet. Almost anything I have ever wanted to do has an fully illustrated step by step guide to getting it done. Yes, I really do believe that open access to information can set you free, and now I have even run into the DIY guide for just that.
Gene Sharp holds a Ph.D. in Political Theory from Oxford and is considered one of the best strategists of nonviolent oposition on the planet. His work has found practical appllication around the globe, from Burma to Bosnia, and most recently in Tunisia and Egypt.
The New York Times posted a portrait of him on their site, which gives you a pretty good overview of his works, and there is an interview with him on recent developments in Tunisia and egypt at The Immanent Frame that is worth a read.
For those of you who want to just jump straight into the how to bit, you can find an english PDF of his work "From Dictatorship to Democracy" at the Albert Einstein Institute.
It's worth a read.
