Today's Webtip: The Star Wars Christmas Special
I was a Star Wars child. The summer of 77 was spent in movie theaters, where I could pick up the newest Star Wars action figure and drop a few bucks on my favorite space opera.
I guess I am partly to blame for one of the scariest moments in television history ever made.
It was the epic success and enormous amounts of money spent by underage fans like me that made a television holiday special seem like a good idea. You can read some behind the scenes scoops about the fiasco here: www.vanityfair.com
I'm pretty certain I watched it on a cold november day in Minnesota. I'm only pretty certain, because although I can remember the buzz around it, I can't actually remember anything from the show itself. I suspect that might be for the same reason I can't remember what it actually feels like to have kidney stones. I can remember what I thought about the pain, I juct can't remember the pain itself.
And now I don't have to. And neither do you. Now we can all share in the pain. Because someone somewhere decided to put it online.
It might have been the Grinch.
