Today's Webtip: Alice's Restaurant
Once upon a time there were all sorts of folks getting together and getting upset about things that were happening out there in the world. They wrote songs and wore funny clothes and marched and levitated and just generally raised a ruckus. And eventually someone seemed to listen.
One of those who was out there raising a ruckus and writing some darn good songs about it was Mr. Arlo Guthrie. Son of Mr. Woody Guthrie, another ruckus raiser with a collection of mighty good songs.
One of Mr. Guthrie's (that would be Arlo) excellent ruckus raisin songs was Alice's Restaurant. That should be the modern version playing up above there as you read this. Or maybe not.
Anyway, that song is a song about thanksgiving, and littering, and ruckus raising, and the absurdity of the ethically challenged baby burners in charge of certain aspects of society.
And, believe it or not, that song is a bit of a tradition in some corners of the U.S.
One that probably needs to be taken off the record player and actually put into practice.
Sorry, I'm ranting...
The point of this post is to point you in the direction of one of the greatest metafilter posts of all time. It's a linktastic html extravaganza built around the lyrics to Alice's Restaurant. There'e enough hypertext there to accompany you through a whole five course thanksgiving day meal AND the football games I would normally sleep through.
