Today's Webtip: The Old Ladies Rebellion

Age gracefully? Not enough. Try aging with attitude.

Photoshop and the fashion industry have found a pretty permanent place in current discussions of media and body image. But one of the more insidious things I have experienced the last couple of years still seems to be underneath our radar.

Aging.

Or, to be more specific, a completely distorted image of aging.

There aren't many musicians, actors, or models out there who have let nature take her course. Most famous types seem to be freezedried at a state somewhere between 30 something and slightly over 40, that wierd plasticky indefinite look that makes my eyes itch.

Combine that with early teens taking major modelling jobs, bad photoshopping skills and a general lack of anyone of age in major media, and it begins to feel like your only alternative is old and frumpy or expensive plastic. I mean, if unwittingly comparing yourself to a preteen can make you feel old at 20, how is a normal human supposed to survive the natural aging process without massive issues...

As a short teenager I found attitude helped. Now, as a short, overweight, balding, middle aged guy, I'm beginning to think it might be the only answer.

It seems to be working for The Old Ladies Rebellion.

The Old Ladies Rebellion

A fashion label for fortgeschrittene. The fashion photos feature plastic free people wearing clothes that work. The collections so far are sort of a mixed bag, but I like the idea and love the attitude.

Personally, when it comes time for that night to fall, I think Dylan got it right.

Rage on, baby!
