Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! It's my favorite excuse to dress up and do stupid stuff, and it's just more fun when more people are doing it.
Despite what most of the local retailers would like you to think, the best aspects of this best holiday can be done without actually buying any plastic junk. Pumpkin carving has to be one of the fundamental D.I.Y. decoration skills and it's a seasonal art form that deserves a much higher standing here than it does right now.
So help me help myself by learning to carve and preserve a pumpkin. Ignore all the rest of the Halloween nonsense if you like, but set the night aglow with the light from a thousand candles.
