Today's Webtip: VLC app
Despite the fact that Apple had already allowed a DivX player to be distributed through the App Store, fanbois and haters alike were waiting with baited breath to see if Steve would give the ok for VLC.
In case you've missed out, VLC is the little media player than can, and does it on almost every platform out there.
And now it's playing back all sorts of non-apple formats on the iPad as well. Well, it's trying to at least.
Apprently it doesn't use and kind of hardware acceleration, so watching a HD rip of your favorite movie might not be the bees knees just yet.
But at least you can finally load up your legally acquired digital SD copies of audio-visual stimulii and take em with you. It also means that there might be a new day dawning in Appleland, a day filled with happy bunnies, alternative system apps, and software that was created using non standard development platforms.
