Today's Webtip: FM4 on Androids
My transition from iPhone to Android has been a serious pain in the backside. Choosing one system over the other really isn't as simple as choosing open over closed.
Each one has it's own strengths and weaknesses. Although people keep putting down iOS for being a toy for media consumption, it actually has some really great content creation apps. I have yet to find anything nearly as good on Android for working on photo, video, or music. But when it comes to having a phone that really is smart, one that can use the array of sensors and networks in your pocket to keep you informed, Android is much more advanced.
There are also a lot of things that you can do on both. My experience so far has been that many of the iOS apps are much more polished. A lot of the Android apps remind me of shareware from the Windows 95 era.
So I was more than presently surprised to run into an app that kicks the iPhones version to the curb. An app that took full advantage of Androids strengths and the current services available on the web.
Zuggabecka put together an FM4 app that rocks. It doesn't just play back the stream or give you the tracklist, it gives you access to our stories and podcats as well. It will even scrobble the tracks you hear.
You can look up info on the current track in Last.fm, or do a YouTube search for the video straight from the player. You can tag a track as a favorite and then share it.
Welcome to the present.
