Today's Webtip: Real life Kick-Ass
I can only hope a few of you have seen the movie Kick-Ass.
You know, the movie about the little girl who comes to the rescue of a teenager who decides to be a super hero. I liked it.
And judging by today's webtip, I'm not the only one.
I have to admit, as a kid who collected comics, I spent more than a few hours daydreaming about putting on a mask and rushing out to save the world. Unfortunately, my few attempts at even low-level do-gooding left me with a bloody nose and a healthy respect for my lack of leetness.
You know what they say, "I'm a lover not a fighter". And I most defintely do not have super human powers or mutant genes. Well, none that do any good anyway...
So my super hero days were over before they started, and I have since survived to tell a few tales. But I still think it would be cool.
Some people have apparently decided it would be sooooo cool, that they actually put on capes and go out to do some good. Well, to do something.
kotaku.com has an interesting post up highlighting some media coverage of these caped crusaders. A documentary and interviews with local TV stations make up the bulk of it, and they are, well, intresting.
You really need to see the rest as well.
And yes, they really do seem to be serious. You can find out more about them at www.worldsuperheroregistry.com
I have to admit, I really don't know what to think about the whole thing. On the one hand, it's really cool. It takes a lot of guts to dress up in tights and confront bad guys. Actually, it takes a bit of bravery just to dress up in tights and go out in public. And I'm sort of a sucker for the type of romantic idealism you would have to have to do something like this.
On the other hand...
Like my mom used to say, "it's only fun until someone loses an eye". Or breaks a leg. Because just wearing a cape doesn't mean you can fly.
Trust me, I know these things.
