Today's Webtip: Internet Stupid
A New York Time piece on the effects digital developments have had on our brains sent some corners of the web into a bit of an uproar earlier this week. Like TV before it, the internet, google and gadgets have now been declared as the evil forces behind the Great New Stupid.
I'm not really in the mood to go into just how silly a lot of these discussions are. I sort of suspect the worst thing the net has done is too expose us to the sheer mass of stupid that was there all along.
Whatever the case may be, I do sort of like a couple of tests that have been made available to test just how focused and multitaskable we might be.
Apparently, I can focus fairly well, but I'm a total loser when it comes to multitasking.
This could be a sign that the internet really has made me stupid I guess, but it might also just be the way I have always been. since I don't have any comparable test results from my pre-internet days, I can only rely on my subjective memory of my abillities form way back when.
Well, I could if my long term memory wasn't nearly as useless as my short term memory was. I wonder if I can blame that little failure on my phone...
