Today's Webtip: Whosampled.com

crowd sourcing the answer to that eternal question.

Sampling has become a mainstay of musical production. Almost everyone does it, but not everyone has it done to them. If you have ever heard a song and thought, "gee, I wonder where they got that?", well, now it's easy to find out.

www.whosampled.com is a social network with a difference. It's all about the music. Bits and pieces of music. You can look up songs to find out where the samples came from, or, if you are the type of person who has that knowledge already, you can share it with others who don't.

The curious can browse for songs based on artist, year, or genre, and you can pick up some fun (although not new) statistics. Yes, James Brown is the most sampled artist. But did you know Rick Rubin was third?

For those of you who are more committed to musical exploration, you can sign up and start a profile. That's the first step to sharing your musical knowledge.
